French Immersion Program

French Immersion Program

École Christine Morrison School is a dual track school, offering a regular English program and a French Immersion program.

French immersion is a Canadian made program in which a child whose first language is not French studies in French. Research shows that French Immersion is the most effective way for a child to become functionally bilingual. Our school offers early French Immersion, where students begin the program in kindergarten or at the latest in grade one.

The French Immersion program is open to all students. Parents do not need to have French language skills. Research shows that French immersion students perform at least as well as English stream students in school subjects such as math science, etc.

French Immersion students do sometimes show an initial lag in the acquisition of English language arts skills, but once English language Arts instruction starts, (grade 3), this lag quickly disappears.

For more information about the French Immersion program, contact the school. Additional information about French Immersion can be found at the Canadian Parents for French website and the BC Ministry of Education French Immersion website.
